Trauma Therapy in Downingtown, PA
Trauma can continue affecting your thoughts, relationships, emotions, and nervous system long after an experience has passed. You may feel on edge, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure why certain situations bring up strong reactions. At Solace Counseling Services, we’ll work to understand these patterns and build a greater sense of safety and grounding.
When the past keeps showing up in the present
Trauma does not always look the way we expect it to. It can come from a single overwhelming event, but it can also develop through repeated experiences, difficult relationships, instability, loss, chronic stress, or situations where you did not have the support or safety you needed. I work with clients experiencing:
❋ Childhood or relational trauma❋ Hypervigilance or feeling constantly on alert❋ Emotional numbness or disconnection❋ Painful past experiences❋ People pleasing❋ Difficulty trusting others❋ Avoidance❋ Strong emotional reactions❋ Shame or self-blame❋ Difficulty setting boundariesYou may know what happened, or simply notice that certain situations or emotions feel difficult to navigate. But you do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

What trauma therapy can look like
Therapy is not about forcing you to tell every detail of what happened.
Our work is collaborative, and we move at a pace that feels manageable for you.
Some sessions may focus on what is happening in your life right now — a relationship pattern, an emotional reaction, a situation that makes you shut down, or a feeling you cannot quite explain. Other sessions may explore past experiences and how they shaped the ways you learned to protect yourself.
My approach integrates somatic practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ACT, DBT-informed skills, narrative therapy, and trauma-informed care.
Together, we can work toward understanding your responses with more curiosity and less judgment while building tools that help you feel more grounded in the present.
Trauma therapy for teens & adults
I work with both teens and adults whose past experiences continue to affect the way they feel, respond, or connect with others.
For teens, trauma may show up through anxiety, withdrawal, irritability, difficulty at school, relationship changes, or feeling overwhelmed by emotions they do not fully understand.
For adults, it may appear in relationships, boundaries, perfectionism, work, self-worth, anxiety, or the feeling that you are always waiting for something to go wrong.
Wherever it shows up, therapy gives us space to understand what your system has learned and begin finding new ways forward.
